You have pulverized and chopped. You have whipped and blended. You have candied and roasted. Now it is time to tenderly cook your invention on your common electric stove. You turn the knob the oven and not a thing heats up. Knowing some simple repairs for an electric stove that you can fix without a service call could potentially save you a lot of time and expense.

Confirm Electricity for Your Stove-top

An electric stove-top won’t operate if it lacks electricity. The clear inquiry that that a person should consider is whether your electric oven is truly plugged in to an outlet. If it is, check your circuit breaker (or fuse) is not sprung. Maybe you need to change a fuse. If everything checks out so far, check the current of the plug utilizing a digital multi-meter. If you don’t have a device at your disposal, trying a portable radio or something into the outlet should at least confirm if the power is flowing.

Confirm the Heating Elements

Check that your stove-top is unplugged. Inspect the heating coil of the spot that is not working. If you can see that the heating element is obviously damaged, buy a new one and swap the damaged one out. If the heating element looks to pass, put it into a running position and turn the stove-top back on. If the element does not heat, get a new element and change the broken one with the replacement.

While you are working around in your stove-top, once more with the electricity unplugged, inspect the plug-in terminals. If you see any corrosion, get rid of it by means of fine sandpaper. Avoid steel wool, as the very fine particles can get caught in the terminals and create an electrical short when you turn the electricity on.

If the heating element functioned in the operating burner, you have a unique problem. Be sure to unplug the range again. Monitor the heating element burner receptacles wires to their functioning position terminals. Test the wires on a multimeter set to RX1. If the holder fails the test, you will need to take out the receptacle and put a replacement holder in its spot.

Extension Cords

Avoid using extension cords for your oven. Period.

Always Be Careful

Electricity can be quite dangerous, particularly for a person who does not have much past history doing electrical repairs. If you have any doubts about fixing your electric range without help, ask someone who has more experience to stop in and walk you through the process.

If you try and can’t seem to figure it out, then its time to call in a tech.
